"Huh? You've only been married a month??" Noooo silly gooses! It's the one month anniversary of our dossier going to Russia!! Whooohoooo! I know I posted few posts back about time flying, but it truly has. It feels like just yesterday that I marched into UPS with a stack of notarized, certified, apostilled papers in my hand, scared to death to let them go for fear I might have to do it ALL over again if it got lost! Thankfully, it got there safely, was 100% correct and off to Krasnoyarsk it went.
I called our coordinator at CHI (who I love so far, by the way) for a little "hey, remember me! What's going on?" talk. As I suspected, not too much is going on. :-) As I mentioned previously, Kras is a new region for our agency and right now two families are acting as the "Pioneer Families" in this region. They have both gone on their first trip and are now in between trips. The idea is for these families to complete their adoption before anyone else heads over. This allows the agency to get more comfortable with how the region operates, to be able to build relationships and to understand the region specific requirements.
I'm not sure who the two families are, but a big THANK YOU goes out to them to be willing to go first in a new region and for paving the way. I know I've said it before, and let me say it again - Adoption is not for the weak at heart. At best, it is completely unpredictable. Please say a little prayer, make a little wish, hop up and down on one foot while wishing on a star - whatever it is you do - for these families and the success of their adoptions!
So, Rachel and I have been talking about our mini-milestones (check out her blog - she met a milestone today!). It's our way of making the wait shorter - well, not shorter but gives us little things to look forward to. Here are my mini-milestones: Sept 15th - IAD (International Adoption Doctor) visit in Birmingham, October 18th - Pre-Adopt II class at CHI in TN (get to meet Rachel and hopefully Carey and anyone else that is around!!). That gets me to November when hopefully things will be moving a little.
Another mini-milestone that I'm NOT too happy to report is September 6th @ 4:30 pm. Vaccinations, my friends, vaccinations. I wonder if Carrie and Michael will adopt me before they adopt their wee-little one since their insurance seems to be much more kind then mine. :-) hehehe... The total cost of the vaccinations we'll need is - drum roll please - about $975. Yep, pick yourselves up off the floor. Thank you Blue Cross Blue Shield for taking my premium each month and not letting me use any of it. Do you realize that $975 is just about the cost of a round trip ticket to Moscow?? Better safe than sorry, right? Right. At least that's what I keep trying to convince myself!
Off to relax a bit! Tomorrow is a cleaning day and thank goodness for my little sister, she is going to force me to finish cleaning up the two rooms! :-)
Happy Friday!
Becky

I came across your blog and thought I would drop you a note to say congratulations on your milestone. We are adopting with CHI as well but we are in the beginning phase with the home study. I would love to add you to our favorites and check in on you to cheer you guys on if you don't mind. Susan
Why in the world would your insurance NOT cover immunizations??? Would they rather you get Hep A or Tetanus and have to pay for you to get well than just pay for you to get a stupid shot? DUMB insurance company!
I felt the same way as you when I sent our dossier to St. Louis. The girl at the UPS store where I took it got a little annoyed with my 100 questions on how many packages had they lost recently, was there anyway to track it every inch of the way, etc.
So much time goes in to those documents. Yours were all even right the first time! What a bonus! I hope your region turns out to be a joy to work in! We sure do feel that way about Vlad.
Congrats on one month down!! Isn't it wonderful!?!? I love how you said you love your co-ordinator "so far"!! We'll both be cheering when we meet our October milestone!! We'll just have to celebrate together... Hmmm..how to celebrate? How about Vodka - the only Russian word Troy can say even after listening to the CD over and over and over -- funny thing is -that word isn't on it!!
Wow! Thats amazing. I can't believe they won't cover anything. Have you checked around to see if you can get them anywhere else cheaper? Do you have an itemized list? Maybe the health services at work can get some of them cheaper...or at least give you some ideas. Also call your county health dept. They might be able to do them cheaper.
Oh...and congratulations!
Congratulations on the one month wait milestone!! Hopefully, not too many more to go. We're so excited that you are planning to attend the UAB class as well. We loved talking to Brooke and she was so nice when we told her we wouldn't be coming in September since we were able to meet with Dr. Heil.
I cannot believe the cost of the vaccinations. We also have BC/BS. I had the tetanus and the Hep B already, but I still need the Hep A. Norman needs all three. Boy, are we in for another unexpected expense!
Hey Guys,
Thanks for following our story. I hope we're next to get referrals too.=) At the pace we're currently going, we might get referrals at the same time and travel together. It would be nice to go with another couple wouldn't it?
What's up with the vaccinations though? Is your agency requiring that you get them or is it just a precaution you want to take? Chris and I are winging it baby! We don't have the money for them anyway but we're trusting in the Lord to keep us healthy.
I'll be praying for you guys.
-Penny
LOL! That reminds me that I've got to go get mine, too. My Dr's office called to "remind" me- I'm such a procrastinator!
I can't believe the cost of your shots! I didn't realize how blessed we were that they are covered by our insurance! Congrats on hitting the one month mark-that means you're one month closer to meeting your child! :)
Yeah on one month down!! I'm so happy that time has been flying for you - at our house it seems to be going so slow. Maybe I need to set up some milestones too. I'll have to work on it.
I can't believe how much the vaccinations are!! That is just ridiculous.
yeah!! that's exciting...one month already down..everyday is one day closer. can't wait to hear that you have gotten the call to travel!!
I am so glad to hear that you are a month in- congrates!!! You are closer everyday to that little peanut!
Hello,
I love your blog. I hae just started the adoption process with CHI. I have just started to get all the paperwork together for the Dossier. I have just started my home study as well. I hope you get your referal sooner. If you do not mind I would also like to keep reading your blog about your journey.
