The Birthday Party - wayyyy late

First, let me thank you all for your awesome suggestions! I have some great websites to look at(and new blogs to read!) and yes, yes... I need to start cooking on Sundays and get prepared for the weekend. What happened to my Sunday naps?? :-) I do have a crockpot and love it BUT I need some recipes that can withhold 10 hours of heat (besides soups). There is nothing worst then coming home soooo excited to eat what you know has been cooking, only to taste it and feel like you're eating shoe rubber. SO, if you have good recipes that will tolerate my time frame, shoot me an email or leave me a comment!

I have so many posts going on in my head. I think I might need to get one of those little mini-recorders so that when I'm in the car driving I can do a verbal post. But then I would need to hire a transcriptionist, right? Who has time to type it? Boy - time management is just way too complicated for the likes of me!

So, August 22nd was Andrew's birthday and I'm just not getting around to posting about it - in his words, of course. He is 3 now, after all so he should be able to write about his birthday on his own. It's going to be a picture post because, well, I'm lazy and need to go to bed. Without further ado... Photos with commentary by Andrew.

"Ohhhh... how I LOVED all of the balloons that were tied to my high chair in the morning!"
"After donuts, I opened gifts from Grandma and Grandpa!"

"Then the fun began! First, I mopped the floors..."

"Then I washed the windows..."

"Can I come in yet? They look clean to me!!"

"I was so sore from all of the housework that a nice soak in the hot tub was necessary"

"And then came BOWLING! BOOM! I LOVED bowling!"

"I had to show Papa what to do... rookie"

"Thomas the train cupcakes for all!"
"Hmmm... that icing was good, but are there any more presents?"

Needless to say, the boy had an awesome time. He loved, loved bowling so much so that he keeps asking to go back. I have some short video of him bowling but it's way far away - In the kitchen which is at least 10 steps away. The vast quantities of chocolate I've been inhaling are slowing me down a bit.

That's all for now! Maybe in the next day or two I can come up with some more intelligent words for you! :-) I'm really surprised this post didn't say "No, honey. You won't see the moon again until it's dark out" over and over and over again like I did today (last night he discovered the moon - it was awesome to see how excited he was!).

Till then...

Becky

A quick crock pot recipe from a single guy, so you know it will be easy! Grab a 1-2lb roast, 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup, 1 onion, baby carrots (the bagged kind are best..no work), 1-3 potatoes peeled and sliced in quarters and any seasonings you like. I throw in the veggies first and 1 can of the soup, stir it all up and then throw the roast on top. Smear the 2nd can of soup on top of the roast. Cook slow and low for 8hrs and you are golden!

If you ever really do need to hire a transcriptionist I'd be happy to do it for you :) It's my day job.

Adorable pics. Looks like he had a lot of fun.

I love the first picture with the balloon, Andrew just looks so excited. The best part of it is that he had no idea that the fun was going to last the whole day!

I had to laugh at him helping with the housework, what a mean mommy you are making him do chores on his birthday. Just kidding, he looks as though he's concentrating very hard to make sure he does a good job. Bless his heart.

Love, love, love Andrew's cake. (I've only seen cupcake cakes for the first time since I started reading blogs and they are the coolest thing.) I adore Thomas, if I ever have a little boy he will be subjected to Thomas whether he likes it or not!

Good luck with the crockpot!

We have a crockpot that automatically changes to the warm setting after it is done cooking (based on how long we set it to cook). This has been a big help for us 'cause otherwise we couldn't set the crockpot up in the morning before work.

I love the pictures of Andrew doing housework. My son absolutely delights in our dust vac. We just hand it over and he's in heaven - and my house gets a bit cleaner. He loves to dust with the pledge disposable dusters too. It's hilarious, but I take full advantage now while he thinks it's so fun.

These recipes all take at least 10 hours of cook time

I meant to comment on your last post...alas, I was too slow. I have been reading your blog since April and really enjoy your sense of humor. Not to mention that Andrew is just the cutest little guy. I have no great recipes or wisdom to share, as I am trying to figure things out myself and unfortunately will be struggling with the same problems as you in about 8 weeks when I return to work. We are recently home with our 17 month old from Moscow City.

Looks like the birthday was a hit, love the pictures!

Becky,
If you find things are overcooked when you get home. Get a timer and plug the crockpot into it. It will then start when you want it to and shut off when you want it to,if you need it shut off. It will still stay warm for a time after shutting off.

I emailed you two crock pot recipes yesterday and also explained how I came across your blog. It's great to see how happy Andrew is with his family and how well it appears he's adjusted. You and Keith keep up the good work!

Great birthday fun! I love the bowling idea! Looks like Anderw had a great time showing Papa how to bowl!

As for the crockpot - roasts are the best for the longer days. I tried chicken and it's too long and the chicken almost tastes soggy. I found one crockpot meal a week would ease up my evening and my week in general!

I love the hot tub picture and I agree that a boy needs a good soak after all that work. He's pretty good with windows!

I love the balloons on his chair in the morning. Great idea.
Looks like a great day. My niece loves bowling. Started around his age. But she loves the shoes! Crazy.

Enjoyed seeing the birthday photos. The Thomas cupcakes looked so cute (and delicious). I'm glad Andrew had a great birthday. Too bad mom and dad made him work for his cake and bowling....slave drivers!

Becky,

The birthday pictures are just great, and the house cleaning pictures will be priceless when Andrew is older!

A suggestion for the crock pot is meatballs and sauce. They can last all day, then at night all you have to do is cook some pasta. We have been doing this in my family for years!

I think that if you put your crockpot on low that the food will turn out alright with being gone for 10 hours. I will try to email you some recipes that are either crockpot or make ahead. The pictures of Andrew are so cute and I loved his thomas the train cupcakes too cute! Also p/u some whole wheat rolls that you can just pop in the oven for a few minutes to go w/ your crock pot meals & then salads in the bag w/ your favorite dressing! You'll make it Becky! Have a good evening! MJ
