I got up at 5 this morning. Partly because I was sleeping with one eye open waiting for my in-laws to arrive, but mainly because something big is happening today. I thought I was ready for it, but maybe not. Our baby, baby boy is going to KINDERGARTEN today. There is no way that’s possible.
Remember this little boy?
He was 2 years and 10 months old in this picture. This same little boy will be turning FIVE in just 18 days. How did that happen?? All I did was blink!
Enough about me… Andrew is SO ready to start Kindergarten. He has talked about it non-stop and do you want to know his number one reason for wanting to go to Kindergarten? Because he doesn’t have to take naps anymore! In Pre-K and summer camp, they had “rest time” for about an hour and Andrew was none too happy about that. :-)
Well, hopefully I’ll be able to hold back the tears this morning. I will be THAT mom walking around with my camera taking pictures of my son and Andrew will be THAT son who grimaces everytime the lens is pointed his way. :-) Hey, I would not be doing my duty as a mom if I didn’t embarrass my child, right?
Oh, funny story before I go. We were getting ready for open house at the elementary school and I told Andrew we needed to go pick out his clothes. The conversation went like this:
Me: Andrew, we need to go pick out your clothes. What do you want to wear?
Andrew: Something that makes me look cute.
Me: Something that makes you look cute? Well, okay.
Andrew: Not too cute though.
Me: Why not too cute?
Andrew: Uhhh… because I don’t want the girls looking at me!!
One more cute story while I’m thinking about it. Recently, Andrew has been talking about how he came from my tummy. I explained to him that he didn’t grow in my belly but he grew in my heart. It seemed to satisfy him for now, but I know we’re going to have a lot of explaining to do in the near future. Anyhow, Andrew was at my sister’s on Saturday and he met her new roommate, Lilly. Lilly explained that she was the new roommate and Andrew turned and asked my sister if Lilly grew in her heart before she ever met her. Too cute!
Well, off to get breakfast started for my little guy! Such a big day – so exciting!

What an adorable little boy! I love his story about needing a cute outfit, but not too cute...kids are so clever (and girls have cooties...so he has a point).
If it makes you feel better, I flew to Russia to give birth to our daughter. She understands she came from Russia, but she thinks I just decided to go to Russia to have a baby...hmmm.....
Too cute!! I can't believe he's going to Kindergarten! I remember talking on the phone while we were still WAITING for our referrals, thinking they would never come!!
Well, both you and Carey are way ahead of me with the conversations on growing in your heart - everytime I mention it, Daniel asks for a lollipop, a cartoon, or a new toy! Maybe he's bribing me in a way -
These kids are too smart for their own good! Let us know how his first day went!
The girls will be all over him because he is just too cute. I can not believe that he is going to school already. Good luck.

This gives me anxiety as Sam will be starting Kinder this year also. Hugs to you Becky...I know it is hard, but you will get through it! It's time to go and get another one! lol
Oh my goodness- I can't believe it!! You have to post first day of Kindergarten pictures! He is growing up, that is for sure!
Wow!!! Can't believe he's now old enough for kindergarten...the years are really flying by. Hope Andrew has a great first day! Hang in there mom, you'll be just fine too!
I cannot believe Andrew is in Kindergarten! Wow - we brought our boys home from Russia the same month and year - I know it is hard to believe how fast they grow!
I hope that your new house is great. You took on quite a bit at one time but you did it! When you wrote about Andrew's recent behavior I knew exactly what you were talking about. Trust me, there are days when I feel like you wrote in that post - it is difficult to sort through what behaviors/needs are due to our children being PI and what are what all kids go through.
Andrew is so lucky to have you as his Mom and such a wonderful family. Never forget that!
Myra
Go Andrew! (Since I was away when he started school, I missed the initial excitement.) Y'all will do well, all the way around.
