Thursday - 1:50 pm:
I sit in my car typing this and pondering how much my life has changed. Why am I sitting in my car typing this on my blackberry, you ask? Well, because I have an almost-3 year old fast asleep in the backseat of my car and a mother quickly learns that you don't mess with a child's sleep - especially one that fights naps like Evander Holyfield!!
I have started so many blog posts (in my head) yet haven't had the time to get them typed up or out of my head for that matter! Instead, I'll just make this a rambling post (I know, SO different from my regular, logical, structured posts, right?? HA!!)
I got a call last week (I think it was last week - I have no clue what day it is) from our IAD telling us that she needed to discuss one of Andrew's lab results. I, of course, panicked and called her back immediately. Guess who brought some little friends home from Russia with him? Yep - you guessed it - little guy has Giardia.
Giardia is a parasite that he most likely got from drinking untreated water in Russia. You can only get it by ingesting infected feces (I know - gross!) but apparently it's pretty common. I had suspected all along that he had it, so it wasn't really a surprise.
We've been sentenced to 10 days worth of medicine 3 times a day. He started out really well with the medicine. Would say "Yummm..." after he ate it and would even ask for more. Then a few days later came the gagging and that night he regurgitated it (and his chicken and pasta) in my hands. We've resorted to mixing it with yogurt or juice and bribing him with M&M's. Hey - sometimes life calls for bribes, right?
Speaking of M&M's... Potty training has gone really, really well. He gets 1 for going #1 and 2 for going #2 (I know, I'm a freaking genius). He's been wearing big boy underwear (I keep calling them panties and quickly get corrected by Alex and the husband) around the house. I'm too frightened to have him wear them outside the house right now!
Andrew gets to pick his color M&M's and you would think he's trying to decide whether to take his lottery winnings as a lump sum or in payments! It is so funny. I have it on video, but haven't had a chance to edit it yet. Next thing to go is the little potty so we can start using the big one full time.
Andrew's favorite word right no is No. To anything and everything. "Andrew, would you like some more chicken?" "NO!". "Okay." (Insert fake cry here). "Why are you crying?". "More chicken, please!". Ohhhhhh, k! And yes he does understand the question - he is just an almost 3 year old with a love of the word "no".
The other day we were working on our yes m'am and no m'ams. He responded to a question with "No!" to which I responded with "The proper response is yes m'am". His response? "No! Yes m'am". Think I have a smart one on my hands? :-)
Well, he's been asleep for about 2 hours which cost me about $3.60 a gallon so I think its time for lunch! I'll try to get some video edited and posted soon!
Love,
Becky

Well, you didn't want the little guy to be lonely did you? He had to bring a few friends along for the plane ride...sorry...couldn't resist! I am sooooo sorry you have to deal with that yucky stuff. Ugh. We were blessed not to have this issue but I know it happens regularly...oh, man.
You have learned the golden rule...NEVER wake a sleeping child. No good can come of it. Congratulations, that is all you really need to know, LOL!!!
I miss talking to you. I know you are so busy. We have had a trying week with Sam's recovery from surgery. Poor little guy looks like he's lost a few pounds. Finally, he starting eating again.
So, the question of the day is...do YOU have to take the medicine too? Oh, I hope not!
You are just too funny! Welcome to my world of having in your mind thought for blogging and not having a chance to ever write anything!
Hum, giardia... It sucks, but at least is totally treatable and in no time Andrew won't have visitors anymore!
Two things I've learned about children:
1 - Bribing does work - I'm glad I'm not the only one to do it!
2 - Let them sleep. It's worth the $3.60!!
So glad you got the meds and Andrew will be good as new in no time! It sounds like potty training is going great!! Talk to you soon!
Hi Becky,
What little Toddler does not love the word "No"?!, except when it is being said to them! So cute!
I cannot believe you guys are already home 1 month - Wow.
I am so glad you all are doing well - With those meds everything will be fine in no time.
Take care...Teresa
Sorry to hear about the Giardia. We thought maybe our little one might have had them (especially since we knew of another boy from her town in the baby home with them...I act like they are little creatures). Anyway, the labs were clean, so we were happy about that.
We used the car quiet often with our son. It can be good, but bad (need to make a stop, use the restroom, gas prices, etc.). At least it works. Sometimes we just need a little quiet time (and a happy child post nap).
Best wishes.
Becky- I remember once taking a nap in the car WITH my little one. He fell asleep and so I just parked it in the driveway and kicked the seat back and we both slept..afterward two very refreshed individuals headed to Walmart. lol! I want to know the answer Kristine asked... do you have to take it too? I hope the little friends are gone soon! And I'm glad you have your blackberry to help you write when you have the time!
Oh my gosh! Meg is the same with the No thing. Same exact scenario with "do you want some cheese... No, etc." I'm telling you, these two could be a couple. They would have awfully cute babies, wouldn't they? I see an arranged date in our future! :)
You crack me up! Artem is using that same word right now and it is driving me freaking batty! I love the idea of the M&M's for #1 and #2, that was a stroke of genius coming up with that. ha ha
We battled the Giardia bug too, allthough I swore Artem didn't have it but they did find "trace amounts" so we did the meds as well. Flaglym or something gross sounding like that, was the anitbiotic Artem took.
He is doing very well! I am sorry about the giardia however. I hope he develops a love for reading. I ahve an Andrew too.
