Book Time!

One of Andrew's favorite parts of the night is Book Time! He picks the stories we're going to read (usually 4 or 5) and we climb in bed. Just recently, he's wanted to "read" the books himself. He started off retelling the story in his own words and then it turned into silly time. He cracks himself up each time he reads a page. I can't even begin to tell you how many books have started with "Brown Bear, Brown Bear...." :-)

Tonight, he was particularly silly so I took the opportunity to get the video camera. He was reading "Good Morning, Good Night" pre-camera and at one point said "Good Night, Duck! No, no... it's not a duck! It's duck sauce!!" I laughed so hard. This first video is his version of "Good Morning, Good Night". This was one of the first books we read when we came home from Russia and it's still a favorite.

Video: Good Morning, Good Night

Speaking of Russia and reading books... the first book we ever read was "I Love You Through and Through". My friend, Shari, had given that to us as a shower gift and I knew immediately that regardless of the language barrier it would be an awesome way to start connecting. Well, low and behold, we have read it as our last book of the night, every night, since July 8th! Needless to say, Andrew knows the book inside and out but still loves it. Mom confession - we'll probably read it until he's 18. :-)

To be honest, we've had a rough few days (or is it weeks?). Problems at daycare (although I'm beginning to question whether or not they really are problems - that's another post), attitude problems with mommy and a really, really stubborn streak. It's difficult because Andrew and I are both very, very stubborn and neither of us are willing to "give in". Yes... he is 3 and I'm 30- something, but it's true. Anyhow, I digress....

The point is that I had a blast with Andrew and book time tonight. I needed it. I needed the impromptu hugs, his sweet words (instead of the no's) and I needed our feet to be friends (need to watch the video to understand). This parenting gig is hard. It's the best of times and the most frustrating of times, that's for sure! :-)

I hope you enjoy these videos of my silly little kiddo... he's growing up so quickly, I can hardly stand it!!

Happy Monday!

Absolutely adorable! I love the giggles in the first one. My younger daughter had that same sense of humor early on and it just cracked us up all the time. The silliness and giggles are still there, but in a now "mature" 6-year-old version. Treasure those moments and thank God for video cameras! ;)

Oh so cute!

His vocabulary is really quite something, I think maybe being in daycare has helped him along with that.

What a sweet video. And yes -- I cried...

That is so sweet. We all go through seasons when we don't mesh with our kids as well as others. Thankfully they are usually short lived and followed by seasons of thankfulness. You never appreciate friendship so much as right after you thought it was gone for good! Just love each other through by keeping faith that there is another side you will emerge out on eventually.

I love the videos, specially the second one! I am soo glad (and a bit jealous) to see how affectionate and fun Andrew is, I hope my little Diego will turn into a boy like him!! Diego is also quite stubborn, but like Mark says, I have become a pushover! Thanks for sharing these sweet, sweet videos!

Those videos were so sweet! We've had that blue car bed for almost 8 years and now our youngest little guy is sleeping in it. Oh, I cherish all the time I've spent in that big blue hunk of plastic reading books! Unfortunately for me, my 4 1/2 year decided that, unlike Andrew, he doesn't like mommy's bedtime kisses anymore. He only likes dog kissess and cat kisses. LOL!

I think I see the problem here... you thought feet were for walking and kissing... you didn't know that feet are actually for STOMPING in absolute defiance and for DIGGING IN when you want your way. Now that you know... I am SURE that things will be much smoother. hahaha Girl, it's my youngest son, Connor, who is stubborn and he got it straight from me! Every time he throws a big fit Brian calls him Little Ondrea. :P Anyway, in all seriousness, I am glad to see your feet are friends again and the giggles will get you through. They are priceless. I cannot wait to see Andrew.

By the way, Atlanta is on hold for a while because WE"RE GOING TO DISNEY! :) Want to come? :)

When are y'all coming to Nash. to see the schools?

Very sweet Becky. Love the videos. I can understand stubborness too. I think boys do seek independence moreso than girls. At least, this is true in our case. Andrew reminds us very much of our son!! At least, they redeem theirselves daily/nightly with their cute, boyish charm and their angelic expressions while sleeping. Gotta love them!!

First of all, I LOVE Andrew's feety pajamas! He looks so cozy!

Second, I love the video of you guys reading together. I get a little sad that I'm not there to see you every day with your little one, but these videos help. Anyone who has ever known you knew that you would be such an amazing mom. I love getting to see your momness in action because you are amazing! Love you!
