Where have we been? Ohhhh... so many places. So much going on, so little time. I have pictures that need posting, but... well... they aren't even on the computer yet. I have to tell you about a wonderful visit with some wonderful friends, Andrew's 4th birthday, homework, back to school, etc... but now is not the time.
Right now, I'd like to tell you how proud Keith and I are of Alex. We had a rough start to the new school year with this child. Something about senior year sets boys into a "I'm a senior, I'm the best, I need not respect anyone, I can do no wrong" type mentality. After a few talks about complete loss of freedom, Alex is back on track. Upper 90's on AP Calc, Anatomy and AP Economics tests the past two weeks. But that's not really my brag...
Alex received a letter today from the Director of Athletics. Here is an excerpt:
"You have been selected by your coach to represent your team in a student leader's meeting....
So many people have 'sung your praises' this year because of the great spirit and attitude of our entire student body. This excites me. I am convinced that this year can be a very special one as we look for ways to let Christ permeate all that we do. Your selection to attend this meeting was not an accident. We think you will have much to offer as we discuss the concept of creating a new standard of sportsmanship at GAC."
The fact that Alex was selected as a leader just makes me so proud - makes us so proud. He has great grades, yes, but in the real world, it's character that matters, right? I'll never forget Alex getting inducted into the National Honor Society his sophomore year based on "character" and he came out and said "Character?! As if that counts for anything." Keith and I immediately led into a lecture about how important character is. It was funny at the time, but it's so nice to see that, despite our frustration with the beginning of the school year, Alex's character is still exhibited amongst his peers, teachers and administration. There is something so special about that.
I'll leave you with that for now and am going to enjoy some quite time with my hubby before our LONG weekend begins. Who doesn't love (and need!) a long weekend?!?! :-)
Hopefully, I'll have a picture post coming up soon!
Becky

Wow! That is so awesome to hear as a parent. Congratulations to Alex for this honor and congratulations to you and Keith to doing such a wonderful job of raising such a fine young man!!
Awww, yay Alex! And he owes it to you and Keith!
Becky- What a great post on Alex!! As I read that it really hit home... character counts. I bet he'll learn a lot more abaout character as they create a new standard of sprtsmanship at his school. You guys are doing a great job raising him!
Enjoy your long weekend!
Congratulations to Alex. His character started with his mom, Sabrina and Dad, Keith, his grandparents, the Swansons, his Uncles, Stewart, Chris, and then with Becky polishing the rough edges out. He has always been a great kid, and it is such a blessing to see him growing up into a wonderful man. Sure, he's had glitches here and there, but overall, he is a diamond in the rough; starting to shine like crazy now. We are proud of you grandson.
Way to go Alex! Congrats to Alex who is such an awesome young man. Another thing we noticed in Moscow was the bond Alex has with you guys. This young man has his ducks in a row and we look forward to seeing what his future holds.
We are proud of you Alex!
Go Alex!!! What a wonderful letter to receive! ;o)
Kudos to Alex. I'm proud of you, kiddo.
That boy has something special Becky, I can't wait to see where it takes him! You and Keith keep doing what you're doing!
I'm so proud of Alex too! Alex is a very sweet, young man and I was very impressed how polite he was during our visit. I think he will make an outstanding student leader and great addition to any college he selects (go Vandy).
We too have been busy, busy. Where does the time go?
That is so amazing for Alex! Character does mean so much - What a great young man you guys are raising!! You guys are doing a great job!
