I'd like to start by wishing everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR! As Keith and I were driving to Walmart tonight, we saw an absolutely gorgeous sunset. You know the kind I'm talking about - the crimson red layered with a hot orange which blends into the bluest of blues. Keith said "2008 is going to be a great year for us. I just know it." And I couldn't agree more! It is going to bring so many changes to our lives and enrich our family in ways we can't even imagine. YEAH 2008!! BRING IT ON! :-)
Anyhoo, I had a great New Years Eve. Alex had 2 of his best friends over. They played "Rock Band" - a game for PS3 that has a drum set, guitar and microphone. I had my debut on the mike - singing nothing other than a little Bon Jovi, baby! I sang "Wanted Dead or Alive" and scored a 99%, thankyouverymuch!
After my singing, I was all charged up and raring to go. I headed out to buy a crib. I had been trying to figure out what to get and Keith and I decided to just go a bit on the cheap, get an inexpensive convertible crib and then buy good "big boy" furniture as the Peanut gets older. I got a 4 in 1 convertible - starts as a crib, turns into a toddler bed with rails, a toddle bed without rails and then a full size bed. It'll do the trick! Of course, the fabulous mother-to-be forgot to buy a mattress!! Yep - what did I think the wee little one would sleep on?? So, back to Walmart we went!
We cleaned out the room, put the crib together, washed the bedding set and got everything pretty much done! Of course, while I was shopping this weekend I had to buy some clothes too. Alex and I went to the mall and wound up in Old Navy - found the cutest clothes at 50% off. Also picked up some pjs. I bought a combination of 2T and 3T clothes figuring that either the Peanut will fit them, grow into them or be too big for them. Either way, we'll use them or donate them to the orphanage so no love lost!
Below are some pictures of our purchases, our weekend and a gift! Speaking of gifts... Keith's mom has been working on a quilt for the Peanut. She made it for us to take to Russia with us. Once we saw how much work she put into it, there was no way we were taking it with us! What if we didn't get it back or it was lost at the orphanage?!?! She used primary colors and used squares of planes, cars and boats. It came out awesome!
The room isn't done-done, but it's getting close. I managed to claim a corner of the room for myself, at least temporarily. My office has become the Peanuts room so I've been kicked out. :-)
Well, it's 2:55 am and I have enough energy to go for another few hours but I'm going to force myself to go read. Need to reverse the bad sleeping habits I've fallen into the past few days. In closing, I want to just say that I think this New Year's Eve was one of the best. We spent it working on things for our future, living in the present and reminiscing about the past. I am so blessed to have the family that I do!
Happy, Happy New Year!
Becky

Happy New Year Becky, Keith, Alex, Peanut & Callie! The quilt is absolutely gorgeous. I can understand why you wouldn't want to take it to Russia with you!
We have great feelings about what 2008 is going to bring to so many families as well. Best wishes to your entire family as you enter a new year!!!
Happy New Year! I love the photos and the crib looks great!! The bedding looks great - the jammies with footies look great!! I am so excited for you. It makes me want to work in our room too, but I am still trying to hold off.
2008 is going to be a GREAT year!!!
Happy 2008!!! The quilt is beautiful and I love the crib bedding. Sounds like you had a great time last night; Rock Star sounds cool.
2008 holds alot of wonderful things for all us PAPs. Happy New Year!
You crack me up! Adorable room and clothes - I love the "I'm a scrapbook page waiting to happen" - too cute! Good choice on keeping the quilt - we never got anything back from the orphanage - a good donation but I wouldn't leave anything sentimental. Happy 2008...it's going to be a great year!
Wow, that quilt is adorable!!! I don't blame you for not wanting to take it on the 1st trip! Happy New Year!!! I love the crib and bedding. Super Cute!!
You couldn't have done anything moe to let me know you really loved the quilt. T.Y. I am making a "baby" one for a hugger that you can leave with our peanut. If it gets gone I'll make another for him. All my babies have had a satin-edged hugger. I can make you/him whatever you wish. What an absolutely best way to spend the 31st. And 2008 "is" going to be great, for all of you! Love, Grandma in Fl.
Becky,
I love your energy!! It makes me excited too!! 2008! Yahoooo!! The crib and bedding looks so great! The handmade quilt..what a treasure!! Love those color combos. And how fun to buy the peanut clothes! Something about shopping in the little kids dept and looking at all the little clothes..it sure is fun!!
Happy New Year!!
Becky- That quilt is sooo gorgeous! I love the crib and bedding! I was cracking up when I read that you forgot t he mattress... lol! That would probably be me! I'm getting excited for you!
thanks for sharing the pictures. hope you get that call soon.
That looks so sweet. I'm so glad that you are full of joy and anticipation. What a wonderful thing to be an expectant mama! I love the cat text. That is just the type of thing I imagine cat's saying!
Just read your two posts. Things are really on the move. Can't wait until you hear something. I thought Russia had you travel blind without a referral until you got there.
I love Old Navy PJs for Mateo. They are the bulk of what he wears. They are very reasonable, often on sale and seem to hold up pretty well...so far.
We are coming by the office on Thursday, I'll let you know when. But I'll also try to catch you online tomorrow.

YEA! I'm so happy you spent your New Year's Eve this way. Aren't you getting so excited now?!? The crib and bedding are so cute, and I think you'll love having the convertible crib. We have one too, and Owen has just started trying to climb so we may be close to the toddler bed configuration! Don't you love buying clothes for your little one? The quilt is beautiful!! I love that Grandma said she'd make a little one for you to leave with him. So sweet. Tell her to make two if she does in case the first one gets lost! :)
I can't wait to hear when you get the call :) 2008 is your year, Mommy!!!
Happy New Year! Old Navy clothes are the best, especially for boys! Keep having fun and I bet you'll get "the call" when you least expect it. Then you'll be really glad you've done so much to prepare ahead of time and be able to just focus on your peanut!
Love, love, love the quilt. Thanks Grandma. It is definitely a keeper and one I wouldn't take either to Russia. Norman's grandmother quilted our little one a doll quilt since she was older. It is cute and matches the one our son got when he was born (except his is a full quilt like yours). Maybe I will snap photos to share too!
Great idea on the crib. A convertible crib gives you more time and use out of the bed. And most children add bite marks or dings to the bed, so I agree with Keith that you will probably buy bigger boy furniture as Peanut gets older.
Love the rock band and would have loved to heard "Dead or Alive." A flash back of one of my favs from Junior High. Did I just date myself?
Haha, I love it! What great pics!
That was such a great post! I'm so glad you started getting the room together for the peanut! Happy New Year! Also we get all of IV's pj's at Sam's Club - they have the really nice carter's pajamas for only $7.00 per pair and they are the same jammies that go for $20.00+ at other stores :) !! Just a tip for future purchases! Have a great day and I love the crib bedding, the quilt and all the pictures!
Its getting closer... The bed is here.. I love it and I am very excited to what 2008 has in store for you
it looks fantastic! you're going to have a fantastic 2008.
Becky,
That crib is beautiful. I would never have guessed it was from Wal-Mart.
I love the quilt too! You are so lucky that your Mother-In-Law is so excited to have another Grandson.

I loved reading how you spent your New Year's! How exciting! Your crib looks so good, and I love seeing what you have for him! The quilt is great, too!
I keep checking your blog to see if you've heard anything--I just think it is going to be really soon that you get "the call!" I hope so!! :)
The quilt is gorgeous. Where'd you find that scrapbook shirt? It's perfect! I have to have one now.
Sounds like you're having lots of fun getting Peanuts room ready.
Oh yeah, I love the new header. Very creative and fun.
The convertible crib is a perfect thing - that way, it fits him/her no matter what size! And the quilt is just adorable!!
Happy New Year (and Merry Russian Christmas!) to you all too.
By the way, LOVE your blog header!
