We got to Hong Kong around 11:15 last night. After gathering our luggage, we headed to the hotel. Keith pried the headphone piece out of his ear and then we all crashed. Our flight from Korea to Hong Kong was wonderful. It was 3 hours and 45 minutes on a brand new plane. I think that after flying 14 hours, a 4 hour flight is a walk in the park! Andrew got on the plane, curled up in a ball and slept the entire time. Keith and I fell asleep as well – missed the first beverage service. Andrew missed his meal completely.
We slept in this morning and missed the breakfast buffet that we had pre-paid for. OH WELL! The extra sleep was totally worth it! We climbed out of bed around 11am, showered and headed to Hong Kong Island.
We are staying on Lantau Island which is where the airport is and the Marriott Sky City. For those traveling here, you need to get a blue cab from the airport, not a red or green otherwise you wind up with a very unhappy cab driver. :-) So, after talking to the hotel concierge, we had a plan. Take the Airport Express train to Hong Kong. Get off there and walk through down town while making our way to the Hard Rock Cafe. Keith wanted to get a pin for his collection and we were starved and not feeling adventurous so it worked!

Nice full belly makes a boy tired!!
After leaving the Hard Rock, we were going to go take the tram to the top of the peak that overlooks Hong Kong, but it was so gloomy and everyone was getting tired so we instead decided to take the Star Ferry to Kowloon – another island. I think that by the time we got over there we were all pretty tired so we didn’t enjoy it as much as we could have. We wandered around a bit but ultimately hopped in the cab and headed back to the train.

After we got off the ferry we started walking around. We landed at the Space Museum and decided we would go see one of the IMAX shows. Bought our tickets and went and sat inside – we were 30 mins early. In that 30 mins we realized how exhausted we were and Andrew complained of an upset belly. We decided to head back to the hotel instead of watch the movie so we did our good deed of the day and gave our tickets to someone waiting in line.
Standing outside the Space Museum… someone was getting a bit silly!

We are now sitting in the executive lounge of the hotel where we enjoyed some food and drinks. It’s 7:30pm here and we’ll all be sound asleep by 8:00. Tomorrow we will head via the train to Guangzhou where we will meet our guide. She will take us to the hotel that we will be staying in for the next 11 days.
I’m so proud of Andrew. He is having such a good time and has decided that we should go to Hawaii next. :-) He is growing up so fast and this trip has proven that. The conversations, his behavior, his demeanor – just so little yet grown-up like. He even announced today that he is growing hair on his legs. Lord, help me!!
Next post will be in Guangzhou, which will be less than 24 hours away from meeting Nathan! I think Andrew is getting excited. He asked at lunch today “When do I get to go pick up Nathan?”. :-)
Good Morning to you all and Good Night to us!
Becky

It looks beautiful despite being a bit gloomy. I'm so happy you guys are having a good time so far, and that Andrew is still excited. And I love the comment about growing hair on his legs! Stay safe!

I am impressed with all you did in Hong Kong, fresh off all that travel! What an awesome city to get to experience! Have fun, rest up, and happy travels to Guangzhou!
Wow- even in a different country, looking at these pictures brings back the feelings I had when we were in Moscow- just that "being in a foreign land" feel. Glad A is having such fun!!
Sorry I am late, but I am here. I had meant to call you this week before you left and promise to call once you return! I loved all the pictures from Hong Kong. I really wanted to go to Hong Kong during my time in China, but we never made it. Glad you had a good time and laughed at your reference to Russia as I can truly say that none of our time in China reminded me of Russia! Ha.
Andrew does look so grown up and I'm so glad he was able to come with you on this trip. You won't regret it! Enjoy your time in Guangzhou. Highly recommend the Safari Park (different than the zoo). You get to see animals outside of the cage and they also have rides for kids Andrew's age. I will have to look at other parks to give you recommendations too (why I meant to call). If you still have access to my blog, we were in Guangzhou the third week of January. I think I have the park names listed in my posts. My mom also used Ann from Red Thread to go and buy pearls. Mom got better prices than I did using her. I remember we talked with her via email and she met us at the White Swan. Enjoy the breakfast buffets in the mornings too. We always took muffins and other items (fruit) back to the room for later. This allowed us to snack and eat only two big meals. Lots of great restaurants on the island in Guangzhou. We loved the Italian one the best. We took a right coming out of the White Swan and it was to the far right of the island. There was a Thai restaurant that was descent and lots of people loved Lucy's (the American restaurant).
I am so excited for your Gotcha moment! I will be anxiously awaiting pictures from your big Day! So sorry that I am so delayed in my commenting!!
Thanks for posting even though you are so tired! Glad things are going so well!
Looks pretty!! So glad you're having a great time!
SO awesome Becky - loved seeing all the photos and your little man i doing so well!! Can't wait to hear from you from China! Lots of hugs sent your way!!!!!
I'm glad Keith got that headphone piece out of his ear without having to go to a doctor. Love all the pictures and seeing how big Andrew is getting. It looks like Hong Kong is a really clean city. Looking forward to following along on the rest of your journey. Thanks for keeping us up to date.
