Hi all -
Well, it turns out that Dr. C (at UAB's IAD clinic) is going to be on vacation the week we're going to be in Russia. BUMMER, BUMMER, BUMMER! Melissa knows what I mean! I am looking at two other IAD's right now and would love to hear if you have any first hand experience with these doctors or if there is another you might recommend.
Please keep in mind we are traveling blind. We will need a quick turn around time (24 hours) and we will need to be able to email pics and video. We will be using a doctor in Russia as well, but like the idea of using one in country and one in the states.
The two I am researching right now are Dr. Patrick Mason (Inova Fairfax, VA) and Dr. Dana Johnson (U of MN).
I've done a search on FRUA and have read lots of great things. Just thought I'd reach out to my fellow adoption bloggers to see if you all had any opinions!
Thanks!
Becky
P.S. IT'S A BOY!!!! Rachel and Troy are now Daniel's official parents! Wooohoooo!

I don't know about the 2 IADs you mentioned. We are using Dr Gordina from NJ. We used her with our 1st two. They were blind, she got back to us within an hour or two of our fax. After the fax, we called her and talked about the kids. She prefers to read the Russian info over the English/translated since she is Russian. Good luck with your search.
I sent you an email. But I forgot about Dr. Gordina. She is always in my listserve. She always has some great advice.

Hi Becky - we used Dr. Johnson at the U of M. He was great with our referral info and I know many people love him. I will tell you though that when we made our referral trip we did not get back anything from him in the 2 days we were there despite the fact we let him know we were in Russia. Feel free to email me if you have other concerns/questions. Best wishes!
You're right...bummer! You know there's another newish dr at the iac, right? She may not be able to be on call, but I really like her a lot, too!! Something to consider, I guess. :)
Becky - I can give you the info for our IAD. We emailed him around 8:30 one night and he emailed back within an hour. Plus several more times. He has been wonderful. Let me know.
We worked with Dr. Johnson and others at the U of MN Clinic and had a great experience. When they knew we were on a tight timeframe, they got right back with us with very thorough info. Feel free to e-mail me if you have specific questions. I've also heard great things about Jane Aronson in NY, but we have not worked with her.
Of course, we don't have first hand experience, but our agency highly recommends Dr. Boris Skurkovich. I like that he "has personal knowledge of Russian medical system and can communicate with any Russian-speaking medical professional directly."

I am in Russia now and had the best experience with Dr. Dana Johnson and his staff. I send pics and videos when I returned from the baby house, and before I go to bed I have my answers. Wonderful People!!!

Hi Becky, Since we are in Connecticut, we were looking into the Yale International Adoption Clinic in New Haven, Drs. Margaret Hostetter and Carol Weitzman. But, it is always great to get opinions of families who used doctors first hand. I am so glad you asked this question. There is some great advice here and it looks like you cannot go wrong with any of these doctors. Dr. Gordina sounds great - Maybe we will look into using her, as well. Good luck! You must be getting so excited!
Best always...Teresa
We were going to use Dr. Bledsoe from U of Washington if we received a blind referral, and if our referral was under 3 or 4 since theteam there specializes in FAS/FAE.
Becky,
I am going to use the International Adoption Clinic in philadelphia. I would say look into the nears Children's Hopital that is closest to you.
If you get a chance could you please post the link to the doctor who you are going to use in Russia. I think that is how I would like to handle it. I know a how to read the medical records but I feel that I would be more comfortable having someone else look the baby over too.

Can't really help with the IAD since ours in Nashville only works on referrals if you use him as your primary doctor afterwards. Try calling the Vandy Clinic. That might be an option.
Just wanted you to know that I just read your blog on the website hijacking last night and I about peed my pants. I couldn't quit laughing about the breast pump and pink shoes. I can only imagine someone printing off your registry and thinking you'd lost your mind.
Too funny. What a great laugh, thanks!
We used Dr. Davies! We were thrilled with his services. I also heard great things about Dr. Mason (as we live in that area).
We are a CHI family and have been home for 3 weeks with our son from Astrakhan. I just wanted to chime in and say we used the University of MN Adoption Clinic. We heard back within 24 hours, but we had to type EXPEDITE with a date and time (all of this done via their website and email). Congratulations on your referral and I wish you the best!
25 more days Becky! We are all counting down along with you and are so excited for you! How in the WORLD do you sleep at night? I know I probably wouldn't...unless I had a few delicious glasses of wine.
