Boy, so much going on… so little time! Work has been nutso so I apologize for having disappeared off the face of the earth for a week and a half (I especially apologize to Carol and Melissa, who were worried, after my last post, that I had forgotten about blogging. :-))
First and foremost (and SHAME ON ME for having not posted this earlier)… A big ole’ CONGRATULATIONS to my wonderful friends, Rachel and Troy and Carey and Norman! Rachel and Troy received their referral last week from Izhevsk. Carey and Norman are now the proud parents of a little girl from Vladivostok! I have had the pleasure of meeting both of them in person and they have been the greatest of friends throughout this process. I’m so happy to see them both so happy!
I have a little news of my own… it’s not “carved in stone” news, but it’s news all the same. Our dossier is done being translated! It won’t be registered today because it is still with the notary (notarizing in Russia is MUCH different than here), but it WILL be registered next Friday, March 7th! We were also asked if our agency should request travel dates for March 23rd. Uhhhhh… YES! Now, we might not get those dates because it will depend on the number of families already scheduled to go and available referrals, but we know it will most likely be that week or the next!
I’m so hesitant to post any of this because I feel like, in the past, I have rejoiced over the little things only to be let down again. I have a gut feeling that won’t happen this time but I’m still so scared to believe it could possibly be true! Of course, all of that being said, it hasn’t stopped me from looking at airfare, hotels, apartments, etc…
Here’s what I have done for Trip 1:
~ Contact an in-country doctor and reserve a few tentative dates.
I know you’re thinking “Oooo… she forgot to type the rest of what she’s done so far.” But nope. After 8 months of waiting, that’s it – that’s all I’ve done. :-)
Some things I can think of that I need to do (off the top of my head without my many lists and other’s lists in front of me):
~ Water the money tree
~ Learn some basic Russian (I’ve had 8 months and I wait until NOW to do this?!?)
~ Verify Marriott’s adoption rate and availability
~ Find a few apartments that seem to be available
~ Find tentative flight times and compile Skymiles (I think we have enough for maybe 2 tickets)
~ Figure out this whole Visa process
~ Decide what to pack
~ Call the doctor for some “just in case” medication
~ Order new money (once I figure out how much I need)
~ Buy things (notice this is generic – that is how I’ll be explaining it to Keith too :-))
~ Get re-acquainted with my video camera
~ A whole heck of a lot more!!!
We are so hopeful that we get our travel dates on Friday so we have 2 weeks notice (or more) to book things because as you know, it winds up being a bit cheaper and at this point the more we can save, the better!
I’d appreciate any Trip 1 tips and tricks you all have! Things like “don’t forget…” “don’t bother packing…” would be most helpful!
I promise to post again soon. Really, I do! If nothing else you should get a registration update next Friday. Please keep your fingers and toes crossed, stand on your head and chew gum, pray or wish on a shooting star – whatever it is that you do – that this is for real and we are truly moving forward.
Hugs!
Little Miss “Optimistic”
P.S. I need to update my header too since all of those pictures are of Izhevsk! Did I ever mention where we are going with the new agency? Have I mentioned that I’m forgetful? We’re going to the Moscow Region. This doesn’t mean the city of Moscow… more on that later!

I am so happy you are back! What wonderful, exciting news. I am so looking forward to hearing about not only your packing adventures :), but also your first trip. I am learning a lot from all of you and look forward to our first (and 2nd & 3rd) trips in the coming months. Have a great weekend.
Congratulations! I, too, was starting to wonder if you were "forgetting" to post and keep us all updated.
It would be wonderful if you end up traveling on 3/23. I had hoped you would go the same week us as, but we'll pass each other over the Atlantic so that's good!
Exciting times, isn't it??!!
Sounds like you'll be traveling and meeting your little one very soon! That's wonderful news!
I'm so happy for you!! It's amazing how quickly everything has come together!! How exciting we will have been in Russia so close together. There's still a chance we could be there the sametime on trip 2 and we will be in Moscow for part of that trip. That would be so cool to see you in Russia!! Congratulations again!!
YAY!!! That sounds like great news!! March is...TOMORROW!
Congratulations!! I've been blog stalking all week looking for this news. I emailed you my phone number. Call me and I'll help you with anything I can!! Susan
That's where we're going, too!! You can compare it to New York City and New York State; that might do the trick. And did you mention who your new agency is- not sure if you were giving that info out (while I have no quams about telling mine, I don't advertise it, KWIM?) Congrats!!!
Becky- you crack me up. I love your blog titles! I say nutso all the time. Congratulations even in the little things. I know what you mean about being cautious. I hope you get the travel dates you wanted! You do know that is right after easter, right! Thats better than any ol'chocolate bunny in the easter basket! Fingers crossed and prayers lifted for you all!
LOL! Becky you always make me laugh! I laughed tonight when you said afterf 8 month sof waiting that's all I did..... Oh you are funny! I am so encouraged by your news...and I can relate to your being cautiously optimistic. I truly hope you get concrete news soon, and I have a feeling you will be packing in a whirlwind before you know it!
Becky,
It looks like things are finally moving for you guys! I am so happy for you and I do hope that you get the call real soon that confirms your travel dates so that you are not left holding your breath for too long. I have a good packet of information I found on Russian language. I'll try to find it again online and send it to you.

When I was checking blogs this morning, I saw your post. I am so exicted for you! I will keep you in my prayers. I will keep chanting referral, referral...
Email me if you want advice on Moscow Marriotts. I have stayed at 3 of the 4 (all but the Aurora).
This is such good news! Stay positive - I have a good feeling about it!

I'm glad to see that you haven't fallen off of the face of the earth and forgotten to update your blog. It's amazing how time flys some weeks and yet others seem to crawl at an excruciatingly slow pace. You are so funny! I always look forward to reading your next post.
I'll be keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you. I too, will be optimisticly excited to hear confirmation on your travel and referall. COngratulations!
Good luck staying calm this week!! I know my mind has also been racing with lists of things to do. I can't wait for Friday. Hopefully we travel together!!
That's wonderful news! I'm so happy that you have tentative travel dates! I look forward to hearing that everything is confirmed and that you are on your way! Since you will be in Moscow, don't worry about taking too many snacks--you can actually find good food there! (McD's, TGI Fridays, Sbarro, etc.) You can also buy bottled water and cokes, etc. for a reasonable price. Email or call me if you want to talk about anything to take/not take, etc. Congrats!! :)
Whoo Hoo!! I'll find my packing list and send it to you or post it. Cannot wait to hear more...you are so close now - congrats!!
One thing that I read on someones blog was to use travel space bags. They compact your clothes and will keep them dry if you suitcase gets wet.
I am so happy for you. I can not wait to hear more about it.

woo hoo. that is fantastic news. if you are staying for any length of time in Moscow, get an apartment. much cheaper and more room and more perks. you can get them through peace travel with Andrei.
Doesnt your agency get you the visas? Our agency did everything. we just filled out a form and sent in our pictures and passports to the agency and they got the visas to us a few days later.
You always make me laugh. So glad to see a new post from you and even better to read good news!
Congratulations!!! I totally understand your hesitancy to post about this. It's hard to get your hopes up when they've been up and down so much. I'm so excited that you may be meeting your little peanut by the end of the month! Wow, that's soon!!!
Can't wait to hear more!
Congratulations! I'm so happy for you guys. The money doesn't have to be "new" bills, just ones in good condition with no marks on them. For Trip 1, I would recommend all 100 dollar bills since you can save any left over for Trip 2. Also, on the apartments, go with one of the Peace Travel apartments. Free unlimited international long distance and free high speed internet!
Oh my gosh! This is so exciting and fast since you just switched agencies! Congratulations!
