Why am I awake?

It's 1:12 am. I left the bedroom because I had finished my book and couldn't sleep. I needed to escape from the sounds of the lumberjack... errrr... I mean Keith. So, in order to do so, I come out on the couch only to be entertained with the sounds of another lumberjack - Brownie. Don't people/animals know how rude it is to be able to sleep with other people can't? How many times can one count backwards from 100 before they become certifiably insane?

I can't shut my brain down. It's on pure overload. Let me share some of the million and one things rattling through my brain right now. "Are all of the skymiles transferred to the right accounts? How many years worth of tax returns do I need? I think it's 3, is it 3. Yes, it must be 3. Do I have all 3? Duh - sure I do and I know where they are. Should I copy them upstairs on the flatbed scanner or take them to work? Keith and I need Visa photos. If Mandy applies for her passport tomorrow she should get it in enough time to travel. Oh, make sure she gets an extra set of pictures done too. Her visa needs to be filled out. Do I have enough info to get it filled out? What if she doesn't get her passport in time? Should Alex come for all 3 weeks or not at all? I really need to learn more toddler phrases. Are 3T's really going to fit him? What if they are way too tight or too big? Don't forget to pack safety pins." AND ON AND ON AND ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not to mention the nagging "what if something happens between now and getting a court date issued? What if we lose him?". That one is killing me. I've been glass half full for the past 11 days and now I'm slowly sinking back to good ole me - Mrs. Glass half empty. I know I will feel much, much better with a court date so where is that court date?!?!?!

On a good note, the Peanut's room is all put together! The only thing left to do is paint the ceiling (yeah, we should have done that first but it's one of those "if it gets done" things. Keith put up the trim on the dormer window (yes, the one we had put in 3 years ago that was still trimless), we rearranged the room and I painted a lot of wood things... Letters to spell out his name and then a truck, car, boat and plane to hang on his wall. I also framed a ton of pictures from our first trip for the walls. Oh, and dumped a half a bottle of Modge Podge (think Elmer's glue consistency) all over the carpet. Brilliant.

Here are some pics. Please note: That spattering that is all over the walls was me distorting the picture where I have his name hung up. I painted the letters of his name with an orange outside and a green face - they came out pretty cool. Also, I love Tigger. Throughout the years, I've received lots of Tiggers as gifts. Hopefully this kiddo will like Tigger otherwise bag in the bag they go!

(Callie and Lancey are going to have a rude awakening when they realize they not longer have a hiding place!)

I also went shopping with the Peanut's Grandpa and Nana (my dad and step-mom). We went to Toys R Us to get some essentials (because toys are essential). They surprised me by buying everything for the little guy as my early shower gifts! This kid will be styling and profiling on his Thomas the Train bike with Thomas the Train helmet and knee pads. He'll be the next New York Yankee after playing baseball using his new tee and using his baseball mitt. He'll be a master builder with his mega blocks and an expert landscaper with his bubble mower. And that's just touching the surface of the fun things he got! His grandpa also bought a wiffle bat and balls to keep at his house for when the little guy comes over.

All in all it was a great weekend! Tiring and I wasn't feeling so hot, but good. Now.... if only I could sleep!!!

Night (I hope!)!

I love Peanut's room! You guys did a great job. As far as the insomnia, we all suffered through it. It doesn't get a lot better though once the little one's are home, because then the thoughts turn to how you're possibly going to get to everything you need to get done! It's all good though!

Wow- it looks so great!!! I too love Tigger!

The little Peanut is going to love his new room and would you just look at all those toys? Just remember- they will only stay in the actual room for about 5 seconds and then you will have them evenly distributed throughout your home....it just happens. I don't think I have a room without a toy in it!

Tylenol PM....take some. It will help. All of the things you listed are easily done. You will get them done in no time, but in the middle of the night I know they probably seem like huge projects.

On the clothes- go to Gap and get pants with elastic adjustable waist so that you can make them tighter if you need to. They are great!

Hang in there- it won't be long!

Oh, his room is precious!!! I love it! I hope the caffeine that I'm sure you needed this morning is working properly! :o)
Old Navy also has elastic wait pants. I have to get them for Jack- he's on par for his height, but he has no waist!

His room looks great! It sounds like you are a "thinker" like me and that your mind is going crazy with all that you have going on right now! That does make it hard to sleep! It sounds like you are very organized and that you have a plan for everything. It will all come together, and I hope you get that court date very soon!

oh Becky what a wonderful room, he is going to love it. Court dates will be coming soon, I can feel it - are you zoning with me? Feel the vibes? Judges are looking at their calendars and writing our names in, can you see it... :) Sleep tight and soundly tonight.

Hey- I had tax returns, copies of dossiers, original I-17H (or whatever it was) guarded them with my life, and NO ONE ever asked for them! However- make sure you have them. I think I had 7 lbs of extra carry on stuff with all of the paperwork. Oh, and everything I brought for Max on the 2nd trip was WAY too big! I thought that since he was 2 that 24month and 2t clothes would fit... oh, no... Thankfully Adrienne and Jim had 12months clothes for me. Also you can buy what you don't bring there, and have heirlooms to keep. I still have my son's underwear that I bought for him in Russia- can't bring myself to throw them out.

I could totally understand your anxiety. You are in between trips and waiting to go and get your peanut. That IN ITSELF has to be nerve racking!Knowing you, I'm SURE this is all already on a list somewhere. Just take a few things at a time and scratch them off as you go. Take a shot of Nyquil when you can't sleep, works for me!
Love the room!

Oh girl, I feel your pain. I was up reading until midnight last night and still not sleepy. Every time I close my eyes I start thinking about things that can go wrong and hoping and praying they don't. We need court dates! :)

Peanut's room looks great! I hope you were able to get to sleep after you wrote this - I usually sleep the very best RIGHT BEFORE the alarm goes off...aargh. Come on QUICK court date!!!!

Hang in there. I can totally understand how you feel. My mind raced all the time while we were wait. I made list after list to make sure. I had everything. Good luck and keep focusing on the positive. I know this is hard some days.

Becky - I love the room!! It is so cute!! You must be so unbelievably excited - I am like you when I think about everything at once, there is no way I can sleep. I hope you get a very fast court date and it sounds like you will! You will definitely get everything done, though. Best wishes getting ready for your 2nd trip!

Becky,

Love the Room...you and Keith did a great job! I love all things Disney, so Tiger is perfect in my opinion. :)

And I thought my little one was going to be spoiled...who-hoo Grandpa and Nana. Great job picking out all the wonderful toys. What a lucky little Peanut. That is his name isn't it? (Just teasing!!) Can't wait to see pictures of him and find out what his real name is going to be. Come on court date! Hang in there! I'm sure everything will be just fine. Now go to sleep!

Oh my gosh, I totally could have written this post! Was also still up at 2:00am today obsessing over random thoughts, including is it 3 or 5 years' worth of tax returns that we need.

Peanut's room is adorable!

Hey, it sounds like you're keeping my kind of hours now! I get my best work done between 10 pm and 2 am.

I love the Peanut's bedroom! Very creative. It must have been so much fun putting it all together.

P.S. thanks for the kind comments on my blog; much appreciated!

Wow, you really got some great things! This is one lucky little man - His room is unbelievably gorgeous too - He's gonna love it!

I can relate to staying awake and feeling like your brain is fried(we go tentative dates) so I'm waiting for the final word... to go!

His room looks so nice. You are perfectly normal to be sleepless right now. What a lot to think about! I love all the Tigers. I can see why people think of you when they see a Tigger. Even though you call yourself 'Mrs. glass half empty' I see you as an optimist like Tigger.

It is funny that we all go through this. I remember thinking, "How does Norman sleep when there is so much to do." Like we can solve the world's (or just our adoption) problems in the wee hours of the morning.

I love the bedroom. It looks fantastic. Great job. I know you are ready to return to Moscow and bring that bundle of joy home. Just stay busy preparing and before you know it, you will receive the call!

I'm thinking about you!!

The room is almost perfect. It will be PERFECT the day you bring him home.

That room looks great! Now all it needs is one little boy and it will be complete.
I feel exactly like you - my mind is racing with tons of details/plans and anticipation of returning for our little one. I hope you hear a court date soon!

Becky,
I haven't commented in so long - it's been a whirlwind couple of weeks for me ... I'm working on a few posts as of right now... I just wanted to say how happy I am for you that you met the Peanut and things are going well for you and Keith. You guys are in my prayers for a speedy court date. I love the peanut's room! Can't wait to hear more about the little guy!

You have everything ready. Now is the time to do the things YOU ARE NOT GOING TO HAVE TIME TO DO when Peanut comes home. Do them now. And I don't mean shop more for him, do for you, Alex, Keith, your sister, dad, stepmom, and brother-in-law. Go scrapbook. Go to the spa. Visit. Enjoy free time while you can. Once he is home, he will be #1, including your time.
