So what are FrameHuggers? If you have a child who wears glasses and needs to patch, this is the way to go! You enter the measurements of the lens, specify right or left and they make it from scratch. It's made out of a very soft material. It's really great because Andrew can't get it off himself, we don't have to deal with the sticky patches and it's a complete black out patch. You can pick from many different colors and can even have a decal put on it (we, of course, chose Mickey Mouse!)
As you can see, the patch covers the top and side of the eye, so it really forces him to use his other eye and not "cheat".
The key is distraction! The first day we played the Fishing game and today was Playdoh. As soon as he got bored he would try to take his glasses off. It's an exhausting cheerleading hour. So, to get Andrew to wear his patch, we went to the dollar store and bought a bunch of goodies to put in the "prize bag". We have a jump rope, water toys, Mickey Mouse stuff, a puzzle, etc... We started out patch wearing by looking at the big hand on the clock. We told Andrew that when the big hand gets to the 2 (or whatever number) he can take his patch off and get a prize from the prize bag. Works like a charm! There are times in life where bribing is the only way to get the end result you're looking for! :-)
I hope everyone had a great weekend! We had lots of rain and today I caught up on lots of sleep! Keith and I had an adult night out last night. Our friend, Cami, was celebrating her birthday with lots of food, drink and fun and so we headed there along with my sister and her boyfriend. Alex and his friend stayed with Andrew (who was already fast asleep when we left). We had an awesome time but I am reminded that I'm not 20 anymore when I wake up the next morning. Thanks to my wonderfully, fabulous, caring husband, I slept ALL day (and then some!).
Have a great week!
Becky

I'm so glad you found something that worked! Way to go to your sister for the recommendation. If I find anyone who needs to patch, I'm going to recommend frame huggers as well! Glad you got to catch up on sleep, and an adult night out too! We need a date night badly...... :-)
How creative to use the patch! Love to see moms find ways to make things work. Blogs make it so fun to share ideas too!
Awesome! Glad you got some rest and relaxation this weekend. We were looking on the computer this weekend at old photos on our blog and we got to Mateo's birthday pics. I told him that was Andrew at his party and he kept saying his name over and over...even talking about him last night before bedtime. Sure you don't want to get them together for MJs this weekend? Might be easier/faster than the zoo but still fun (and tiring) thereby giving you more freetime during naptime! :)
I'm jealous! I want some sleep too...
Glad the patching is working and yes, bribing is sometimes a NECESSITY!
Glad you found something that seems to work so well. How is it possible for that boy to look so adorable in every photo???? :)
I love the frame huggers! They are adorable! I'm glad the prize bag is working. He looks so sweet with it on!
You have an awesome husband to let you sleep all day!! I'm glad you got to enjoy some time out with friends!
Genius.
That's awesome. I remember having to wear a patch as a toddler and hating it!!

AW! So cute. Dima has eye troubles too. His don't require a patch at this time or glasses ... nystagmus ... BUT I think kid's in glasses are the cutest. I myself was a coke bottle lens wearer when I was young. That was before they made the a spheric lenses. What a cool idea these folks had. Next thing, they'll make em' with charms like the croc shoes!
Glad to see you are having some success with the patch. We may be headed that way with our littlest guy -- have an opthamology appointment this month to discuss.
And I am SO envious of your day of sleeping! Keith rocks!
Hi Becky,
That is so great that he is using the patch and you made it fun!! That a great idea! He looks so cute in it!
