First, and most importantly - HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my daddy! :-) Today he turned 30 all over again. :-) Love you, dad!Alrighty - it's a big YES on the vaccinations! Here is what I found out we need to get (now keep in mind you may already have some of these, as for myself, I haven't a clue!) Hep A, Hep B, Typhoid, Tetanus, Diphtheria and Rabies (if you're going to be in rural area and outdoors a lot). I also need to have my chicken pox vaccine (Jenn - I haven't had chicken pox either!).
Sooo... I called my lovely insurance company. I figured the vaccinations aren't covered because it's travel related, but I wanted to hear them tell me that. The lady I had on the phone couldn't tell me unless I had a CPT numbers for them to look up (the billing code for each vaccine). Well, now I have a choice - stick with the same dr or take this as an opportunity to find a new one. I've decided to go with the later since I haven't been thrilled with the current one for a while. I have narrowed my list down to two and I'm going to call their offices and see how cooperative they are with helping me get the CPT numbers and answering my questions. We'll see how well that goes. I really miss the days of going to a drs office and there being one doctor and one nurse. I guess I would need to move to a small town again, maybe??
I have finally made my LISTS! I think I'll follow Rachel's lead and post my to-do's in the sidebar of my blog. It'll keep me honest, maybe? Or at least be a constant reminder! Of course, I purposely put things on my list that I knew I could cross off ASAP. :-) hehehehe.... how's that for stacking the deck? I've also made lists of things to buy for the Peanut. Boy, the "start-up" costs on a child are pretty steep! :-) I suppose that doesn't change for, oh... at least 18 years, huh?
Night, night!
Becky
P.S. Why would an insurance company not pay for the vaccinations? Wouldn't it make more sense to pay for that vs. treating someone with one of the diseases? Ahhhh... the common sense.

Any reason that you HAVE to get all those shots?? I only got the Hep B shots. Since Nathan is in the military, he's had every shot for every condition known to man, but I was not about to fork out that kind of money, since it wasn't required!! :)
But no, it doesn't make sense that insurance doesn't cover a lot of stuff they don't cover. It's irritating!
When I had my physical for my medicals they did some of those. I know I had one of the Hep's done. It was a year and a half ago I don't remember.
But I didn't pay any extra for the shots.
I need to get the Hep. shot(s). I think the dr. told us you have to get the first one a few weekd before you travel at least. Troy has had them. However Troy has not had the chicken pox either. I added that to the "Talk to the Dr." list!! I probably won't get the other shots though. Although with the SPCA - they will make me do the rabies shots before long anyway!! (I've been avoiding them about that)!! Good luck with a new Dr. It's good to find one you like.
I can't believe that the insurance doesn't cover those? That is crazy? I wonder if you just go in and ask your doctor if you can get them then the doctor calls the insurance company if you'd get any different response? Good luck and thanks for letting me know :) Have a great day Becky :)
I agree that it is crazy that insurance does not cover the shots. I got a Tetanus during my physical for our home study and Dossier and I had to pay the full cost since I hadn't met my deductible for the year.
As far as the Hep shots go, the Hep B is the one that requires three shots over a six month period. I would recommend starting those first. You take one then a month or two later, you take the second one. The last shot is taken about six months after the first shot. I know because I've had five. I started the series in college and missed the last shot. I had to start over again.
As far as the other vaccinations, I'll ask my doctor and see what needs to be taken prior to my follow up medical before the court date and what can be done now.
We only got the Hepatitis series too!
Yes, I completely agree that vaccinations should be a covered benefit because you are preventing a potentially very serious illness! Crazy, isn't it?!
Hmmm...Haven't thought about vaccines. Maybe since I have been to Colombia 4 times already I'll be ok without them.
Company's insurance sucks...but maybe this will be one of those few things they actually do cover. Its why I pay the $$ and use Andres' insurance. I love not paying for anything!
I'm working from home tomorrow...but should be online some. I'll catch you then. Your list looks good!
PS - Car seat came in! I LOVE IT!! I actually like the fabric a lot more than I thought I would. Of course I was basing my opinion on one of the cheaper models and this fabric is much nicer. You should come by and see it!! Maybe Sunday or Monday.

I agree that it is crazy that your insurance won't cover these! I found out that I think ours will but none of the travel clinics around here will file for insurance, so you have to take care of everything yourselves. We're trying to get it all figured out!
I'll have to check about this sometime. When the doctor bills it to insurance, it may depend on the billing code he uses. I'm not too familiar with billing codes, but I think back when we had our medical exams, he was able to bill somethings a little differently so insurance would cover it.
By the way, check my blog, I tagged you!
I didn't get any shots- I am still alive. I would however get an anibotic like a zpac from your doctor just in case. I did get very sick coming home on trip one but was A ok on trip 2.
I am so with you on that one. We just had the same thing with our dentist. Didn't want to cover costs for sealants but would pay for fillings right and left. ARGH!
I enjoyed reading your quiz answers. It is fun to stop and think about those things. I hoestly couldn't think of which song "Sweet Caroline" was until I read the bah, bah, baaaah part. Very clever!
