Vaccinations

I took Alex to the drs today to get his sports physical. It turns out he needed a meningitis vaccination and on the way home that got me to thinking! What about vaccinations before we travel to Russia? I remember reading about it somewhere - maybe the Russian Adoption Handbook? I know the CDC recommends the Hepatitis vaccines, diphtheria and some others. I can honestly say that until I read about the vaccines in whatever book I was reading, it hadn't even crossed my mind!

For those of you that have BTDT (been there, done that) did you get vaccinations prior to going? Or those of you that are in the same spot as me - are you going to get vaccinated?

Things that make you go hmmmmm.....

Night!
Becky

P.S. Thanks for all of the nice comments about my blog! I'm still not in love with it, but will will at least tie me over for a few more weeks.

P.S.S. All of those pictures in the header are from Kras. No clue what they are, but someday I should be able to tell you! :-)

get those vaccinations asap. I came into contact with several children who had diseases. Be on the safe side. First get your doctor to check all your immunities and update any that are no longer in your system. I also got Hep A, Hep B, Tetanus/diptheria, meningitis, Typhoid. I think that was it. You can check in my blog archive to find out definitely. A couple of our referrals who we played with for days had diseases. You don't want to open yourself up to that. And if you have never had the chickenpox, get the shot. It runs rampid through the baby homes.

We went to the pre-adopt class and were advised to get the Hep series. I had to get tetans for the homestudy medical (I was overdue) and poor Troy has never had chicken pox so I think he will need that. Just another thing to add to the "List" I suppose.

I've had several vaccinations through my work (I'm an engineer who works in water and sewer...I know how exciting) including the Tetanus and Hep B. I am planning on getting the Hep A and after reading the comment from mmrussianadoption the typhoid and meningitis as well. I was thinking the Hep A is only good for a certain period of time (6 months to a year, so I'll check on that once again). Norman also has to get all his vaccinations prior to traveling. I recommended he get at least the Tetanus when he went for his physical but I forgot to ask if he did it. I'll check with our doctor and get back to you.

I just got my chicken pox vaccine (because I was that one child who never contracted it as a kid, and now you just don't see if much any more thanks to the vaccine) and I'm going to start the Hep A series. Not sure about the Hep B or others yet- but we still have time in our chase.

Thanks for the reminder about the vaccinations! That is a good one to put on your todo list for before your first trip during the waiting period! Great thinking Becky! :)

This is exactly what I've been thinking about! I'm so glad you mentioned it--it is on one of my lists :) to check on this when I get back home. (I'm out of town for work this week.) Let me know which ones you find out you need. I had my tetanus 3 years ago before we went on a mission trip to Brazil and one Hep. A I think, but I never went back and got the other one. I'll probably have to start back over. I'll let you know if I find out something, too.
