Parenthood - Moscow Trip 2, Day 14

A very special thank you to Mandy for blogging for me last night. I think, even if we did have internet, I wouldn't have been able to. I was E-X-H-A-U-S-T-E-D. This parenting a toddler thing is non-stop. Even when he's sleeping!

Yesterday was awesome up until bedtime. As Mandy told you he was so excited to see us and get into the machina (car)! We changed his clothes and low and behold he is NOT a 3T. The shorts we dressed him in were like little knickers. :-) Bedtime was quite the mess. Andrew was very overstimulated from the day and just couldn't wind down. Meanwhile, mom and dad were just about out of gas! We tried to comfort him, tried to lay him down and snuggle - didn't work.. Ultimately we brought him back into the living room where he listened to his Russian fairytales and then I rocked him and sang. Over and over and over again.

We checked on him a bit later and noticed an icky smell. Yes, I experience my first blow-out of mommyhood (didn't know it was called that until I started reading blogs, by the way). We managed to clean him up, change his diaper and his clothes and he didn't wake up at all. We were amazed!

Today was an easy going kind of day. We woke up (he is SO like his mama! Once he's asleep he likes to stay asleep and is slow to wake up!), got dressed and he began asking for our machina. We went down to wait for our driver/translator and then headed to the Embassy medical appointment. The dr came in and told us to take off all of his clothes, shoes and diaper. We did and Andrew got a bit upset - borderline tears. We wrapped him in my sweater until the dr came in. The dr stood him on the table and little Andrew proceeded to pee... everywhere. :-) Whoops! The doctor said "Well, we know that works!". :-) All in all it was a good appointment - very quick!

After that we came back to our flat and we filled out our embassy paperwork and then our translator took everything to the office. She came back a while later with our embassy file. Tomorrow we'll go drop that off and pick up his passport. We found 2 small parks this afternoon, went to the notary, walked quite a bit. Naptime was a bit like last night, just a shorter version and bedtime was flawless.

We read "Go Dog Go!" by Dr. Suess and then I sang 9,000 more times. I put him in bed and we had no tears! I checked on him a few times and he was undressing himself and then redressing himself. I realized he was probably hot so I changed him into shorts and a tshirt. I just checked on him a few minutes ago and he's shirtless. :-) Go figure!

The past two days have been surreal. Keith and I barely slept last night. I think we both kept waking up thinking "really?!?! Is this for real?!?!". Watching Keith with him is just the most awesome thing. He's such a good daddy.

Alright... enough babble. How about some pictures? I have some video but I'm too tired to wait for it to load. Maybe tomorrow will be a video post.

Paka!

Becky, Andrew is so cute! I know what you mean about singing 9,000 times. I sang Baby Beluga the other night over and over till I was sick of it, but everytime I tried to stop Artem would let out a grunt, so I had to start up again. How about tonight you sing 99 Bottles of Coke on the Wall to Andrew?

When we got home with Artem I had this feeling like someone was going to tell us our time was up and that we had to give Artem back. It wasn't real for several weeks. I guess after trying for so long to have your own child, 7 years for us, it's so surreal once it finally happens that you almost have to keep pinching yourself.

Enjoy the rest of your week and I hope bedtime and naptime continue to go well so you and Keith can get some rest. :-)

Andrew is such a beautiful little boy, I can't get enough pictures of him! I remember singing twinkle twinkle little star to Caroline all the time in Russia when she would have these horrible meltdowns, which were happening almost every 30 minutes or so around the clock! She still remembers me singing that to this day, 10 1/2 months later.

He is a doll! He looks so happy with Mommy and Daddy, too! I'm glad your first couple of days have gone well. It is surreal when you finally get to the point of having your child with you! All of the waiting, frustrations with the process, waiting, and more waiting finally results in a precious child joining your family, and all of it is so worth it in the end! I know you are so proud of him already! Congrats again! :)

I am glad he peed on the doctor. That is funny. One funny thing that I was thinking about when I read your post is how much he loves cars. Aren't your older boys (Alex and Keith) really into car? I guess this little guy fits right in.

Becky- I busted out laughing at the doctors comment: "Well we know that works." lol! That was hysterical! I am so glad he is sleeping well.... that makes a world of difference for you and Keith! Not long now and he will be able to see his own precious room!

Andrew is adorable! I understand completely about struggling with going to sleep. That is how we can tell that Kaden is overstimulated or not feeling well! Ah Motherhood has just begun! Enjoy!
