Seriously! - Moscow Trip 2, Day 9,000

Who in the world decided it was a brilliant idea to make all adoption embassy appointments at 2:00 in the afternoon with 25+ families whose children have not napped allllllllllll day and place them in a small little waiting room?? Seriously. Was it someone]s idea of an April Fool's joke that just stuck? Is it fun for the embassy people to have to yell through the window (or in our case, have us read lips) while an almost 3 year old reads mama and papa's passports as loud as can be? Ughhhh... it has been a long, long day. What's amazing though is despite the number of tantrums and the number of "nyets", when you say "kiss" and you get a full on lip kiss followed by the cutest little giggle it all goes away... well, for the most part! :-)

Andrew has been a trooper. We were at the embassy from 2:00 until almost 4:30. By about 9:45 this morning (15 minutes after he woke up) I think he was ready for a nap so you can imagine what 4:30 was like. Dinner time consisted of eating some and then sticking his hands in the food to test us. One minute he liked what he was eating, the next he hated it. Long story short he didn't have dinner for very long. He was probably full from all of the food we fed him at the embassy to keep him calm. :-)

At embassy, we met so many nice people and so many little cuties! I met one couple that read our blog - they recognized us! We met a CHI family that had adopted a little boy from Tver, we saw the couple that we had our 8 doctor medical with and many, many more! Most of them get to go home tomorrow (lucky ducks!). Thankfully, Lea, John and Niko will be with us until Wednesday and we'll fly home Thursday.

I don't have any pictures to share today. We traveled camera-less because we knew we couldn't take it into the embassy. Of course it was funny when we found out we had to take all of the battery operated toys out of our bag too. It was even funnier when we realized those were the only toys we had. Speaking of toys... and the embassy... all of the families were in this little waiting room. Not enough seats of everyone. Well, I went to walk Andrew around to burn off some energy and wound up in this big waiting area. We weaved in and out of the empty rows (where there was plenty of room for all of the adoptive families and their kids) and low and behold we found a child's play area. Wouldn't that have been handy to have for the 2 and 1/2 hours we were there? :-) Too, too funny.

Bedtime tonight went better than planned. Keith and I had bets on how long it would take to calm him down. I said 30 minutes, he said longer. Well, the ritual started at 8:00 and ended (for the first time) at 8:05. At about 8:07 there was this cute little dude in his diaper smiling at me from the living room door. Ummmm... someone escaped from the pack and play! Another meltdown and 5 minutes of rocking and he was fast asleep. We're hoping to get back on a schedule tomorrow since we have the weekend free.

Monday is our last official day of paperwork and then Thursday we'll head home. We're really very ready to get home. Yesterday I wasn't too home sick and today I really was. We have loved our stay here - it's been great and there is still more for us to see but we miss our bed and our doggies and our family!

I'm going to take advantage of this early bedtime, lay on the couch with my book and decompress for a little bit. I'm getting a bit of a sore throat so hopefully I can fight that off!

Paka!
Becky

Oh yuck! Don't hate me when I say our Embassy visit was less than 20 minutes. I'm so sorry it was such a lousy experience. When we were there, only 7 other couples were there with us and it moved along very quickly. I do agree, though, that scheduling it at 2pm when that's nap time for 99.9% of those kids is a horrible idea!

Hi Becky, Sorry you are there a couple of extra days, but I am so glad you'll make the best of it and see more of the sights! I am really enjoying seeing all of the great pictures you guys took. Your little guy is just such a cutie!!! Glad you got to bed early to get some rest.
Take care, Teresa

Seriously! I am so with you on that! When we were there, our appointment landed right about in the middle of nap time for Aidan!--2:00, same as you. . .Fortunately, we were called first and I jokingly mentioned that we were the parents of the screaming baby. . .to which the American behind the counter did not respond in any humerous way! Rude. But, you're almost home now!

"We have loved our stay here - it's been great and there is still more for us to see but we miss our bed and our doggies and our family!"

Anyway, glad you guys are getting some rest tonight/this weekend. Can't wait to see you all in LESS than a WEEK!

Love you.

LOL! At Mandy's comment! That is funny!

Becky glad you made it through that time at the embassy. I can't even imagine what it will be like with two, and trying to keep them calm! You did great and naturally being the exploring sort of person you are, you found an awesome play area. I wish I could take you back with me and you could be my guide in Moscow when we go! You would be a fun guide!

You found a play area in the Embassy????? Why oh why didn't I? We had the same time frame and it was crazy with all the kiddos who needed a nap!! Glad your little escape artist went back to sleep for you. Our little guy never made it out of the pack and play but the first night in the crib at home he made it out!! Hang in there - just a few more days and you'll be home.

I'm glad your Embassy visit went well even though it took awhile. I agree that the time we bring our children to the Embassy is not the best time during the day. Oh well.

I am just loving Andrew and all the adorable photos. He is so cute in the glasses and I love the one of he and Keith walking hand and hand. I thought the bath photo was funny too. Nothing like a grown man taking a bath :o)

I'm so glad you are enjoying your time in Moscow. You have done so much more than we ever were able to do. You will cherish all these memories.

Much love coming your way!

I am laughing my head off because I remember a very nice North Carolina family giving us cookies to calm down Max and I too walked Max by that play area in the embassy

I forgot how crazy the Embassy is for getting visas. Now, I am having a flashback. I wish they would schedule the appointments for a better time now that they have 2 days to process the visas.

I am glad things are going well. We are in Seoul right now getting ready to head home to Atlanta (and back to Vlad on Friday).

Have a safe journey home!

Oh- Im sorry I didn't warn you about the embassy visit! You said it all for those that are waiting and who read your blog. It is a cruel joke to have it at 2 PM! CRUEL CRUEL CRUEL- not just for the kids, but the parents as well. When we were there, I joked with another family that the waiting area with all the parents trying to entertain the kids and keep them content was the REAL TEST for the embassy interview and adoptive parenting. I bet they have a little video camera in there watching all the parents to see if the pass the test! We too disccoverd the play area at the end of our visit. Thankfully Zachary and I could go there and wait for the mysterius envelope to be handed off to Jason in the main room. God bless you all for getting through a TOUGH TOUGH day!

Becky, I am looking forward to seeing you in Moscow next week. I know from our first adoption that Embassy visit can be a bear! I am really not looking forward to it this time either. Thanks for the info. on the playroom. Maybe I will be able to find it and the time can pass faster. Have a restful day!

The Embassy visit was definitely no fun. I know you're glad it's over. You're getting very close now, and you'll be back in the very hot and humid South soon!

Just one day and one step closer now! Monday is the last day of official running around and then maybe an earlier flight home? I will pray for that for you guys. You have been there a long time and I know how it feels to long for your bed (I am such a home body). You will be home before you know and then you will be ready to do all this again! I know it sounds crazy, but watch out it is addictive!
